OSHA Ergonomics Regulations
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has issued its final version of regulations regarding workplace ergonomics. The new rules took effect January 16, 2001, and employers had until October 14, 2001 to comply with the rules and provide information to employees. The rules deal specifically with MSDs or musculoskelital disorders (e.g. carpal tunnel, tendonitis, back strain).

Rules cover all “general industry employers” and the only exceptions are construction, maritime, agriculture and railroad industries.

Business owners and safety managers may want to access the Ergonomics section of the Business and Legal Reports website (www.blr.com) for further information regarding the regulations and employer regulations.
